About Concentration Units
- Molar concentration (molarity, mol/L) counts molecules per unit volume. It is the standard unit in chemistry for reaction stoichiometry. Mass concentration (g/L) is often more practical in industrial and environmental settings.
- ppm (parts per million, mg/L for aqueous solutions at density ≈ 1 kg/L) and ppb (parts per billion, µg/L) are used for trace concentrations in water analysis, environmental monitoring and air quality standards.
- The relation between mol/L and g/L requires the molar mass M (g/mol): c (g/L) = c (mol/L) × M. Example: 1 mol/L NaCl (M = 58.44 g/mol) = 58.44 g/L = 58,440 ppm.
- Quick reference (aqueous, ρ ≈ 1 kg/L): 1 g/L = 1,000 ppm = 1,000,000 ppb · 1 ppm = 1 mg/L = 0.001 g/L · 1 ppb = 1 µg/L = 10⁻⁶ g/L.
| 换算关系 | 说明 |
|---|---|
| 1 g/L = 1,000 ppm | 水溶液(密度≈1 kg/L) |
| 1 ppm = 1 mg/L | 质量浓度定义 |
| 1 ppb = 1 µg/L = 0.001 ppm | 质量浓度定义 |
| mol/L = g/L ÷ M (g/mol) | 需输入摩尔质量 |
