About Mass Units
- The kilogram (kg) is the SI base unit of mass. Since 2019 it has been defined by fixing the numerical value of the Planck constant h = 6.62607015 × 10⁻³⁴ J·s. Metric prefixes give gram (g = 0.001 kg) and tonne (t = 1,000 kg).
- The pound (lb) and ounce (oz) are avoirdupois units. The international pound has been defined since 1959 as exactly 0.45359237 kg. 1 lb = 16 oz. Both are widely used in the US, UK and trade applications worldwide.
